Vocations

At St Chad’s, we believe that everyone has a special calling in life. This idea comes from the Latin word 'vocare', which means 'to call'. According to Pope Francis, being holy and loving God is not just for a few people, but for everyone.

St. John Henry Newman once said that God has given each of us a specific job to do, something that only we can do. We understand this as our vocation.

Vocations aren't just about jobs. They also include different life paths, like being married, becoming a priest, joining a religious community, or living a single life. We respect and honour each person's unique path and help them discover and follow their calling.

Every one of us is called by God. Through the sacrament of Baptism, we start a journey towards God to become part of his family. Our vocation is strengthened through receiving the sacraments of Reconciliation, the Eucharist, and confirmed in Confirmation – the final sacrament of initiation.

Our gifts and talents are meant to be shared. We believe everyone has a calling to share their gifts and talents.

Vocation isn't just about what we want; it's about what God calls us to be. Sometimes our desires match our calling, other times it's unclear. We pray for God's guidance to understand our calling.

Every two years, we hold a vocations week at St Chad’s.  Our aim is to inspire and inform and for children to come away from the week with the opportunity to really evaluate their purpose in life and think about their own future.

‘Pupils have a comprehensive understanding of vocation in the widest sense. Seminarians regularly visit the school to talk about vocations to religious life and past students of the school who have gone on to pursue successful careers return to inspire and motivate current pupils. Pupils’ knowledge and understanding of vocations to family life, single life and roles that support the wider community are taught through the Relationships, Health and Sex Education programme.’ Section 48 Inspection 2021

The children at St Chad’s are always encouraged to reflect on their current personal vocation—how they are presently serving God in their classrooms, within the school, at home, and in their communities.
